Excellence, vision, teamwork and unbiased insight are founding principles that have held fast over more than 40 years of Richard N. Best Associates’ growth and development.
Our company was established in 1972 by Richard N. Best, P.E., a professional engineer registered in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. As an employee working with traffic and parking control equipment at Fischer & Porter in 1964, Richard Best developed the first true-presence vehicle loop detector, a concept that still is in use today.
During the early years, Richard N. Best Associates serviced all makes and models of parking control equipment. With unbiased insight, Richard Best evaluated and determined the best equipment manufacturers. In the early 1980s, he became a distributor for Federal Signal Corporation’s parking and revenue control products in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. A few years later, Federal Signal purchased Automatic Parking Devices and formed Federal APD (FAPD), which later was purchased by 3M. Over the years, Richard N. Best Associates, Inc. was recognized as one of the top 10 distributors for FAPD, and consistently was listed in the top 10 percent of FAPD’s national distribution network, receiving several awards.
In 1991, to expand our company’s reach, Richard N. Best Associates joined the PARC Group, an organization of leaders in systems integration and innovation for the parking and access control industry. This select network of companies from the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean utilizes a large, shared knowledge base, with technologies and ideas contributed by all member companies. The PARC Group complements one of our founding principles: objectively gather information on every manufacturer and share this depth of experience and knowledge to collectively determine the best products and suppliers. Utilizing the PARC Group’s unique strengths, we are able to share an expanded range of customized, integrated solutions with our customers.
Since our founding, we have built upon our greatest strength—our employees. Continued growth has allowed us to add employees to assist with all facets of the business. We have established a dedicated team that provides a high level of professionalism, technical expertise and integrity.
Every day, Richard N. Best Associates continues to apply our founding principles and strengths as we review product lines, upgrade technology and grow our business. Today, we represent an expanding list of companies and product lines which allow us to expand and grow into other areas of distribution. Our long-term business plan supports our goal to steer the company on a continuous path of success by learning from our history and planning for the future.
